Earth Day
Monday, April 20, 2009
Earth day was started by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin when he made the historic announcement in the summer of 1969 that there would be a nationwide movement to raise awareness about the environment. On April 22, 1970, people all over the United States banded together to fight for the Earth. It didn't matter if they were protesting oil spills, pollution, or overpopulation, they were working together to save the earth and bring attention to the damage that was being bestowed upon it on a daily basis. 20 million Americans came together that day.
This year's Earth Day will mark the beginning of "The Green Generation Campaign" which will also be the focus of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. In the US, they will lift the poor out of poverty by creating millions of quality green jobs and transform the global education system into a green one.
On television, there also will be some channels that will be showing "Earth Day Specials". So watch themwith tour lights off , like Earth Hour (you do not really have to do this but try to make an effort to save the Earth)!
